Track and Field Faces Third Straight Saturday
NWACC heads to the University of Arkansas for its fifth meet of the season
The NWACC Men's and Women's Track and Field programs make a quick jaunt south Saturday for the Arkansas Spring Invitational at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark.
Hosted by the University of Arkansas, the meet is NWACC's third in as many weekends and the fifth on the season. The Eagles will return to Fayetteville April 24 for their final regular-season contest to attempt to qualify for the NJCAA National Championships in May.
Freshman discus thrower Madilyn Guy kicks off the day with the team's only morning start time, kicking off at 11:15 a.m. and slated to throw first in the single 15-athlete flight.
Following Guy is fellow thrower and freshman Omar Medina, who sits in the fifth slot among 12 competitors in the lone flight of the event set to start at 2:45 p.m.
On the track, freshmen Benjamin Venter and Kevin Perez compete in section one of two of the men's 1500-meter run, preceding sophomore Cindy Soto and freshman Gloria Kurgat in the women's 1500 meters, also in section one. The men compete at 1:45 p.m. and the women run at 2:05 p.m.
The lone 100-meter sprinter Saturday is sophomore Owen Seusy, who starts in lane two of section one with an estimated start time of 2:50 p.m. Sprinter and triple jumper Logan Bouzek is unavailable for Saturday's events due to an ankle injury, also keeping the Eagles out of 4x100-meter relay contention.
Freshman Jakson Suit (section one) and sophomore Brandon Lindenmuth (section three) run the men's 400 meters at 3:15 p.m., with sophomore Marian Hendricks (section one) and freshman Talitha Venter (section two) coming immediately after.
Perez and Benjamin Venter return for the 800-meter run at 3:50 p.m., both running in section one, while Soto and Kurgat run the 800 at 4:05 p.m., also out of section one.
Three of the eight sections in the men's 200-meter run are occupied by Eagles, including Seusy (section one, lane two), Lindenmuth (section three, lane one) and Suit (section four, lane one). The men's 200 is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
In the women's 200, Talitha Venter operates out of lane two in section two, while Hendricks competes in section seven from lane one.
The 5,000-meter run will not be held at the Arkansas Spring Invitational.
Kurgat comes off of two personal records last week at the David Suenram Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Ks. and looks to keep the momentum building down the stretch of the season.
