Sprinter Joins From Georgia
Tyler Ellington will become the first athlete from the Peach State in school history when he joins NWACC in August
MACON, Ga. - Sprints specialist Tyler Ellington signed on to join NWACC Men's Track and Field, as announced by coaches Josphat Boit and Chris Weller Wednesday.
"I connected with Coach Boit through email during my search for a college program, and after reading through the bios of Coach Boit and Coach Weller, it caught my interest," Ellington said. "Coach Boit got back to me, and after that conversation I knew this is where I wanted to be."
Ellington joins from Rutland High School in Macon, Ga., where he ran track and field and played football for the Hurricanes. His personal bests on the track include a 23.61 in the 200-meter dash and a 53.52-second 400.
Ellington has also been highly successful in relays, contributing to the school records in 4x100 and 4x200 at Rutland and holding all-state honors in both.
"NWACC can expect a hardworking individual who shows up every day to get better," Ellington said. "I'm always willing to go the extra mile and do whatever it is that I need to do to get a job done."
Despite the long distance from home, Ellington's family connections in Northwest Arkansas will make the transition easier.
"My brother [was the one who] told me about NWACC and mentioned that they have a track and field program and that I should check it out," Ellington said. "[He] stays in Northwest Arkansas as well, so that makes the move more reassuring for my parents since it is a long way from Georgia."
Ellington will arrive in the Natural State in the fall as a freshman after graduating from Rutland this summer.
The NWACC track program continues its season with the penultimate meet of the year Friday at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
